Recording sessions commenced this week with Saanjh a global fusion band I play in. The members are Bruce Harding (flute/bass), Sandy Khaira (drums/percussion), Gagandeep Singh (vocals), Amarjeet Singh (tabla), Vidya Sundar (vidya veena), Baljit Singh (dilruba), Tony Boughen (keyboards) and myself on guitar.
Saanjh is a Punjabi word which means “connecting ,sharing or partnering ” and is an apt description of our writing process. This band is all about collaboration and since the beginning of 2014 we have been getting together at Naad Foundation to play together and work on music. The music we make is a combination of progressive rock, indian classical, funk, reggae, jazz, blues and whatever other genres we can throw together!
Back in June we played our first show at the new Surrey City Hall as part of VIBC’s (Vancouver International Bhangra Celebration) festival and we will be performing again in this October at Surrey Arts Centre as part of the Naad festival.
